I've had carp on the farm for over 20-years and I have never seen them spawn in April, but on Mustang Lake they had a proper go at the start of the week. As a result the fishing has been very patchy, but it does look like they are back on the feed now and I expect after expending all that energy they will have a big feed up in the next week or two.
We've had a few nice fish out since I last posted with the best being a 25lb 14oz common taken from peg 6 by Dale (his first fish from Mustang). Other 20s have come from peg 2,8 and 10. No one has had a good hit this week, and we have had some blanks, but I know everywhere is fishing patchy at the moment because the carp have other things on their minds.

Corporate, Coaching / Tuition Days
Since we opened a month ago I have been asked several times if I will do some one to one or group tuition days on Mustang Lake. I have finally now decided that I will do a limited amount this year for those that want to brush up on areas of fishing they have the least confidence in, or anglers who have just got into carp fishing and want a fast track lesson to bring them up to speed with the more experienced rods. Pike tuition days will also be available in the winter months with me, which will also have to be booked well in advanced.
I have also teamed up with my good friend Iain 'Ting-Tong' Macmillan to carry out some group tuition days for six individual anglers on the 23rd and six more anglers on the 24th of May. The two of us will cover everything we know about catching carp from day-ticket venues. The price will be £100 per angler and I will reserve the best 6 swims on the lake for the those who take part. We will also provide tickets, all the bait and terminal tackle that is needed, plus I will knock up some tasty bacon rolls to keep us going.
If anyone is interested in booking a tuition day with me or a group day with me and Iain then please contact me on the fishery number: 07706 483084 or drop me an email: Rich @ Airfield Lakes <rich@airfieldlakes.com>

28 Different Twenties
We've had some very good sport this week with the best hit going to Kev Wyatt who had 16 takes and banked 14 carp from peg 9 in 48hrs.
Peg 4 produced five fish and a couple of dropped bites for young Rob. Ross had a nice hit of 5 fish from peg 3 including a previously uncaught 25lb common.
As I walked around Mustang Lake this morning I saw five fish banked and the pick of the bunch was a 20lb 2oz mirror I named "Petals" taken by consistent rod Lee with in an hour of turning up. That was the first capture of the fish since I stocked it over a year ago at 16lb I think. We have now had at least 28 different twenties caught since we opened a month ago and I know there are still many that have not visited the bank.
All 14 pegs have produced fish in the last week, but swims 1 - 9 have been best. Beds of boilies, method feeders, PVA bags and zigs have all caught.

PBs Broken
We have had some strange weather conditions over the weekend, but some nice fish have still been out including the Mustangs largest carp at 31lb 3oz for Aaron. The local rod smashed his pb of 17lb from peg 12 with the big girl - well done mate, good angling.
We had a couple of nice 20lb + commons out including a pb 23lb 8oz fish for Nigel, who used a 3ft zig from peg 10.
Darren from Norwich enjoyed his first trip to the Mustang with a 20lb 2oz mirror and a few nice back up fish from peg 13.
Pegs1,3,4,5,6 and 8 have all produced fish as well and some of the younger anglers have been showing the older ones how it is done.
I've just walked around the lake and the fish are all over the place on the top and in the margins.
I am planning some individual and group corporate, coaching / tutorials with my mate Iain Macmillan at the end of May so I will put up some more info and dates in the next day or so.

Darrell Peck action
We've had a mixed week on Mustang with some anglers having some really good hits and others missing out.
The fish are really moving around the lake and it is even hard for me to predict which swims are going to produce a lot of the cation. There has been 5 twenties out I think, but also lots of small male fish between 11 and 14lb have been out.
I reserved peg 12 for Darrell Peck when CarpTV were down for the day filming with him and Ian. He did manage a small fish for the camera, but young Ben in peg 1 must have had at least 7 fish to over 20lb, so maybe I should have picked him peg 1 for the day - Sorry Darrell.
Peg 9 and 10 are very consistent at the moment along with 13 and 14. Most bites are coming to PVA bags and a spread of decent boilies. Nash and Mainline baits stand out as the best. Pink and white pop-ups seem to be best hookbaits.
We have my good friend, Dr Paul Garner down next week doing a feature for the Anglers Mail, so hopefully he will show me how it's done.

weather change
With the high air pressure and easterly winds I didn't think Mustang would fish that well at the weekend, but there were still quite a few fish out including a couple of nice hits for Tony and his brother Kerry.
Four or five twenties, to 25lb came out along with plenty of high doubles.

Now the weather has broken the fish are back on the munch, so don't be afraid to put a liitle bit of extra bait in.
Top angler "Teacher Tim", just finished his 24 hour trip with 14 carp moving between swims, 9, 11 and 13.

Hot
We've had a lot of fish banked from Mustang this week, but the action seems to be a bit all over the place, with a lot of fish coming in quick bursts when the fish get their heads down.
We had my good mate Ian Macmillan up for a dabble on Spitfire and Mustang, but you will have to read Carp-Talk and Total Carp to see how he got on. Next week we have Darrel Peck down on Mustang doing a piece for Carp TV.
There have been a few good hits and the best fish banked include a 28lb 2oz mirror by Danny, 23lb + mirror by Rory, 20lb 6oz mirror by Ross and two 20lb + commons.
Peg 13 did the best hit with 10 takes and 7 banked fish in 20 hours.
Peg 12 and10 are also coming into form now and 1,2,3 continue to be very consistent. I saw a lot of fizzing in front of 6 this morning and no one has been in there for two days.

Action
There has been some impressive results this weekend taken on Mustang Lake, by a number of different anglers.
Tony had five fish to 22lb from peg 5, Ben had 4 doubles from peg 6, Andy and Dec had at 8 or more doubles of peg 1 and lots of other fish have come from around the lake.
Young Sam Souza had only been in peg 2 a few minutes before he caught his first UK twenty at 22lb (that fish made my weekend - well done Sam).
Nash Amber Strawberry and Mainline Cell seem to being doing well, along with PVA bag tactics and bait boat work.
hope you like the pic's
