Hot Stuff

Carp fishing has been up and down on Mustang since I last posted. The lake seems to be on top form one minute and slow the next - I'm sure the strange (lovely) weather we are having is responsible.
Things are looking good today and the fish are fizzing up big time in a few areas and I just photographed two fish including a lovely 22lb + mirror from taken from peg 9. I even managed a couple of pretty doubles myself in a quick morning session the other day.
A nice spread of decent boilies is producing most action. Nash Squid and Mainline Cell are the baits I'm seeing most fish caught on. The fish are still spread out, but it is worth a good walk around before you set up to try and get on the majority of them.
The fish are in great condition at the moment, really fat and starting to get their autumn colours, plus they're starting to feed up before the winter.
I hope you like the pic's.

Pike Fishing Starts

Just a quick blog to let you know that the pike season starts on Mustang Lake on October 1st. The lake is stuffed with pike and they have not been fished for before so it should be good sport. The biggest caught this year accidentally by a carp angler weighed 16lb. Most of the pike are between 6lb -15lb.
I am allowing sea dead-baits only and to not upset the carp and carp anglers I'm not allowing lures - sorry.
The pike are all over the lake, but pegs 1,4,7 and 14 are clearly the areas where they are stacked up in, because of all the prey fish in the bays.
I have some pictures of some of the pike that were stocked into Mustang along with a few that have been caught by accident on boilies. I had a ten minute go the other evening to test the water and managed two to 12lb on float fished smelt.
Please look after the pike you catch, they're fragile fish and do not like being mishandled or being out from the water for too long. I have also put some special pike nets around the lake, so please use them.

Big Hits

Action has been up and down on Mustang since my last post, but we have had some very good results taken by several anglers and the fish are now really feeding up. The best hit, taken today, was by Simon Ingram, who banked nine and lost one in a 24-hour session! Great angling mate, they love your bait and can't deal with your rig.
On a tuition I did on Friday we manged a couple of doubles to 18lb from peg 8, the first bite cam within 5 minutes. One of my favorite catches of the season was taken by 15-year old Harry Pratt who banked a awesome 22lb mirror (another new 20 for Mustang) from peg 13 during a day-trip on his first time to the lake.
Lots of other fish have been landed including some stunning double figure linears along with at least 5 different twenties.
Pellets are still working well, but more fish have been slipping up to a simple boilie approach (20-40 around each rod). Nash Squid and Mainline Cell /Grange are still best by a mile.
This is the best time of the year to be out in my opinion as the carp are fat and feeding up for the winter. You may even see me having a bash for the first time this year soon on Mustang.
I hope you like the pic's.

Looking Good

The fishing has been up and down in the last week, but several have still been out all around the lake. Now the weather has finally settled things are looking very good and I've just seen two lads have screaming runs in the last couple of hours.

I've been busy with magazine work and tuition sessions, but I have managed to get some photo's and some anglers have very kindly sent over some pic's for me. There have been some really pretty fish out and one of them was my favourite twenty in the lake in the shape of "Petals", taken by Pete. Young Ben also had a lovely 22lb mirror I photographed during a day session. Another good day session was enjoyed by Dave Garner on his first trip to the lake in peg 4 who banked a low double and a PB19lb mirror using lobworms and pellets - good angling. The best fish out was a 25lb 11oz mirror taken by Dale in peg 8.

I'm on the front cover of UKCarp this month with a nice Mustang mid-double and the article inside shows some of the tactics that are successful for me on day-ticket carp waters like Mustang.
