crazy hits

I've been pretty busy at the fishery over the last week with tuitions and coaching days, but things have now settled back down. Lots of fish have been out and we have had a few crazy hits by some good anglers.
Tony Green got no sleep in peg 12 as he had 11 fish to 24lb in a night! He added another 3 or 4 fish the following day as well. Top angling mate.
Top rod, Danny Richards did a week stint and banked 24 fish. He moved around the lake fishing pegs 3,4,9 and 13, his best fish was a stunning new 23lb common which he caught in the margins on the float - well done bud.
The biggun has been out again at a shade over 31lb from peg six, the same guy added five others including a new 20lb + mirror.
Kieron banked a brace of 20lb mirrors from peg 7, these were once again new twenties for Mustang.
Nash and Mainline boilies seem to be the baits to be on, especially the Monster Squid and New Grange. large beds can produce the goods. Corn and 8mm carp pellets are also worth bringing along to get them going. The anglers catching most are taking their time to find a nice spot and baiting up regularly. Light running leads with long hooklinks also seem to be very effective on Mustang.
I just want to also thank my friends at the Anglers Mail for wonderful four page feature they published about fishing Mustang Lake in this weeks issue.
I hope you like the pic's.

Growing Like Stink

Another decent week on Mustang with lots of decent fish visiting the bank. The best hit was taken by John Goodyear who had 28 takes, landed 24 fish for a combined weight of 330lb from peg 9 in four days. Well done John, top angling  - you made it look easy!
Several other 20s cam out, which have all started to put the weight back on after spawning. Big Scaley also made an appearance at 31lb 4oz for Sean Rafferty in peg 13. Sean smashed his 14lb pb with Mustangs most sought after carp fishing just 15 yards out using Monster Squid boilies (Nash Plug - sorry).
I had a tuition session in peg 2 with Jason Allen and we had to work hard for our bites, but we manged three takes in the day and I enjoyed helping a good angler gain lots more confidences in his rigs n baits plus master the art of casting / feeling the lead down (a huge edge anywhere).
One of the best carp I saw on the bank in the last few days was a 19lb 4oz Sutton strain mirror that I stocked in November at 16lb. This fish had was even spawned out!
Good quality boilies, corn and carp pellets are doing the business as usual. The fish are coming from all over at the moment.
Hope you like the pic's.

Too many to list

It has been a last few days on Mustang and I honestly have lost count of the fish that have been caught. At least nine different twenties out in three days to 27lb and several anglers have had over six fish in 24 hour session. The best hit was taken by Daren Evans in peg 7 who had 13 carp to 23lb in 24hrs. Top angling Daren.
But the catch that made my weekend was taken by 11-year-old Tim Payne, who banked a personal best 22lb common from peg 9 - well done mate, fully deserved. Tim's dad Chris wasn't outdone though, as he banked a 23lb + common next door in peg 10.
Peg 13 and 6 produced good hits as well and fish came out from all the other swims that were fished.
Many different tactics are working, but spreading boilies and pellets little and often is standing out.

Having it!

We have not been very busy with anglers in the last few days, but the fish have been well on the feed. A couple of nice 20lb commons have been out along with several fish between 15 - 18lb. We had Angling Times UKCarp magazine here yesterday shooting a feature with Jed Kent, but you will have to get next months issue to see how they got on during a quick day session.

There are still a couple of spaces free for the group tuition days if anyone is thinking about it and I now only have limited spaces left in June / July if anyone wants a one to one/two with me on Mustang. Send me an email or phone the fishery number if you want any more info.

Pop-ups with a PVA bags of pellets fished over a scattering of decent baits like Nash Monster Squid, Mainline Cell and Tails Up Pro-Fish are doing the business. Swims 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and 9 have been best, but the other side of the lake has not been fished much all week.

Hope you like the pic's.

BCAC at Mustang Lake

The fishing seems to be getting back to normal on Mustang Lake with several fish coming out in the last couple of days. The fish are spread out, but swims 2,5,7,8,12 and 13 have been best. Four twenties have been out including a couple of new ones which now means we have had 30 different twenties caught since we opened.

I am pleased to report that British Carp Angling Championship (BCAC) has chosen Mustang Lake as one of its 20 qualifying venues across the UK. We are the only venue in East Anglia that has been selected and hopefully Sky will turn up to film the 10 man match on the 15th-17th July. The top two anglers go through from Mustang to fish at Linear in Oxford and the 1st prize is £5000.
