feeding

Things are looking good on Mustang at the moment. I think most anglers had a fish or two last night and I saw three fish come out yesterday afternoon when I limped round.
Pegs 1,2,3,5,10, 12 and 13 have produced the action. Small PVA bags, stringers and light baiting tactics have proved best.
The conditions look spot on today and I'm sure there will be several fish come out in the next few days if some anglers turn up for the weekend.
Below are some pic's of a 25lb mirror and 18lb 12oz common caught this week

Ouch

You won't see me running around the fishery too much at the moment as I spent yesterday evening in A and E after I fell out of a tree when a branch snapped. Luckily I have not broken my foot, but I have ripped a ligament which is pretty bloody painful.
Anyway the action on Mustang has been more patchy in the last couple of days, but things look like they have picked up again. the best two fish out I know about are a 20lb 2oz common and a 25lb mirror which I'm waiting to get a pic of. Also one of the lakes prettiest carp came out, which is now known as 'Jimbo' at 18lb 8oz, alovely scaley mirror.
Peg1 - 3 still have a lot of carp in-front of them but fish are starting to move in front of 5 and 6 along with 10, 12 and 13.
The best tactics of late have been small PVA bags or pellet and chopped boilie. I have seen a few guys getting a bit excited with the spod rod, but I think extra bait is only needed when they are clearly ripping it up in front of you.

Big Scaley out again

Big Scaley has slipped up again this time to the rod of Andy who banked the 31lb 1oz mirror along with six other fish in his trip, including a couple of nice 18 pounders all from peg 1.
Several other fish have been caught around the lake including another couple of 20lb commons.
Ian had a nice result from peg five taking 4 fish in 24hrs including a pristine 22lb 13oz common and 17lb 14oz mirror.

Peg 3 is still in form but 6 and 9 have had a lot of fish moving in front of them today.
The lake is not busy at the mo, in fact there is just one angler on tonight braving the cold conditions.

Mustang end of week report

In the first week Mustang lake has produced over 60 fish. We have had six different twenties out and at least nine carp over 18lb. My favourite fish was the big common Jed Kent caught from right in-front of peg 4. He added a 19lb common by moving to peg 13.
Most days have seen five to six anglers on the bank the main bite times has been late afternoon (3.30pm), 10-11pm and 6am.

Sloppy spod, beds of pellet n chopped boilie and zigs are producing all the action at the moment. The fish have also just started taking floaters today.

23lb Mustang Common

Another twenty pound plus common has come out from Mustang today along with at least 10 other doubles in the last day or so. Lee Simmons caught the immaculate 23lb fish from peg 5 on an overnighter.
Pegs 12, 13, 2 have produced other fish today and two fish were lost from peg 10.
Sloppy spod mixes, PVA bags and short zigs are getting the bites and most action seems to be happening late in the afternoon and early in the morning.

LOSING COUNT

Fish have been coming out all around the lake today and I have lost track of what has been caught. At least two 20s have visited the bank including a 22lb common for Jed Kent which I hope to have a picture of by tomoz.

Jed also banked several other nice fish including a 17, 18 and 19 in just 30 minutes using PVA bags.
After losing a good fish in the night Danny Richards made up for it with a brace of pretty linears taken on short 1ft zigs from peg 2 the other consistent swims are pegs 3,4,7,10 and 12.

There are just 5 lads on the lake tonight and the fish are boshing everywhere so I'm hoping the action keeps coming for them.

Mustang Lake Record - Big Scaley 31lb

Here's the biggest carp caught from Mustang Lake so far. I have only just received the pictures, but the fish was caught two weeks ago during a day guest session prior to opening by Dale Wilby. The Brockdish carp hauler had 11 other carp in his hectic 12 hour trial to 20lb. But he was over the moon to bank the carp in Mustang lake he really wanted to get his hands on - Big Scaley at 31lb exactly.
Well done mate, I'm chuffed to bits for you.

Mustang action

Within 12 hours Danny has had 10 runs and banked seven cracking doubles from peg two. 1foot zigs and bags of pellets have produced the goods for the Gt Yarmouth rod on his first visit to Mustang Lake from peg 2.
Four other carp came out yesterday with the pick of the bunch being Paul Renault's brace of upper doubles from peg 12 in a short afternoon session.

There are only two anglers on the lake at the mo and things look good for more action today.

Opening Day Result

Airfield Lakes opened to the public today for the first day and despite the hard frost and high pressure conditions  six fish were landed  and a couple were lost between the seven anglers who turned up on Mustang Lake during the day.
Young Jordan Stevens banked a couple of nice doubles to 17lb using two foot zig-rigs fishing from peg 6.

And Mark Haynes banked a cracking Sutton upper double from peg 2.
The water is still very cold but the fish are starting to spread around the lake and things look good for the next week ahead.
